All Photos of Kerrie Hess Copyright Carla Coulson
I took these photos of the fabulous Australian based illustrator Kerrie Hess on a dull winter's day in Paris for a magazine. Kerrie Hess is the author of the beautiful Shoestring Chic full of great tips on how to look fabulous without spending a fortune. She is just as elegant in real life as her fabulous illustrations.
Shooting notes:
All images shot on my Canon 5D Mark II with natural light. There were wonderful large windows and we were up high so all the interior images were shot with window light. My favourite..
Who are you shooting?

ReplyDeleteWow, these photos are so beautiful I love them
ReplyDeleteI was only reading about Kerrie Hess late last week in a magazine I picked up in a cafe early one morning. I can't remember the name of the magazine, but when I looked to see who the photographer was - a habit of mine - it was Carla Coulson! I enjoyed the article and loved your photos too - so glad to see more from the shoot in your post!
ReplyDeleteI love how much light floods these photos. And Kerrie is positively angelic.
ReplyDeleteAs for who I am taking happy snaps of, it is mostly my daughters, husband and on occasion the many moods of the sleeping cat.
Beautiful pictures as always, Carla! I loved how there was a different mood to each photo. Thanks for showing them to us :)
ReplyDeleteCarla, these shots are so gorgeous. I especially love the B & White ones. I adore natural light. I recently did a photo shoot of a model on the beach (soon to grace my blog) I got some really interesting shots and did some experimenting with over exposure with some really cool effects. I love photographing my kids- or any kids xxCorrina.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful portraits! Beautiful light and location. And she's lovely and chic and perfectly at ease in front of the camera. It looks like you had fun! ...Who am I shooting? Lately, this interesting young lady: http://click-photography.blogspot.com/2012/02/colorado-fashion-photography-ember.html And soon I will be in your beloved Italy for the first time, exploring Orvieto. Ciao!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots Carla + with Paris in the background it is so utterly romantic xx
ReplyDeleteI tend not to shoot any "who" but many "whats" :)
ReplyDeleteI never leave the house without the camera and lately, with a change in the air, I tend to photograph every little thing, keeping them for when I will need that reminder.
I find I never photograph "pretty people" .. the ancient old on benches in the park, etc catch my imagination more.
Gorgeously romaantic photos
ReplyDeleteLove her work too!
Her book looks like a keeper.
Another amazing shoot Carla! Love Kerrie's work, and what a great apartment too. You really captured her charm in these shots.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! Everything about this shoot makes me smile. There is something about tulle that is so magical.
ReplyDeleteThat dress! Gorgeous. And the photos (as always) are so lovely. I especially love the last one in front of the windows!

So Divine + Thank you, Carla xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
ReplyDeleteI thought she was a model herself, rather than being an artist. Mind you, she gorgeous enough to do both jobs.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the first two photos, they are fantastic and the model is unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip
I suspect you and Kerrie are friends or at least immediately hit it off, there is a relaxed vibe that transcends the glamour.
ReplyDeleteAs an illustrator I am familiar with Kerrie's seemingly effortless work and wish her every blessing, but that apartment?
I could not help but laugh imagining you shooting me in my tiny NYC apartment. Am I the only illustrator still living in bohemian squalor?
X David
Divine. I wish I looked like that when I made the morning toast. Those photographs are like a dream. I have her cute book.xx
