Meert Copyright Carla Coulson
When I am not taking photographs I am eating. Sometimes I am even eating in between taking photographs. I love to eat!! And always have. Somedays I am planning my next meal whilst eating.
I live in the 4th Arrondissement in Paris which makes up part of the Marais district and no matter what time of day or night I exit the front door there is always a little action going on. Though the Marais is one of the must-do destinations in Paris it is one of the arrondissements where it is hard to find good food - believe it or not.

Living in a Parisian arrondissement is kind of like living in a village everything you need is in your arrondissement and if you are lazy (like I can be) you can find it hard to leave. Though eating good food in the Marais isn't going to happen in every cafe and bistrot I have spent so much time lurking around it's four corners that I have nutted out my favourites.
Here they are:
I eat gelato at Pozzetto
I eat pizza at La Briciola
I drink coffee at Miroglio Cafe
I eat French at lunch out the back at Le Petit Fer A Cheval
I eat chocolates (and buy them for my friends) at Meert
I indulge in creative cakes at Pain De Sucre
I have an afternoon Portuguese Pasteis de nata at Comme a Lisbonne
I eat a 'girl's lunch downstairs at Merci
I eat Sunday lunch at the classic french bistro with great staff Bistro Des Comperes
I buy Italian mozzarella at La Cave A Mozzarella
I eat a casual market lunch at Marche des Enfants Rouge of Japanese, Italian and Lebanese
I eat fresh food by great Australian chef at Au Passage
I eat a light summer lunch in the courtyard of Institut Suedois
I drink Chai Lattes at Les Philosophes
I eat Falafel at L'as du Falafel
I splurge on a burger every now and then at Breakfast in America

Le Marais is my most beloved area of Paris, I can't wait to get back there - armed with your list of course!

I have French blood flowing in my veins and it is so funny but the whole meditaranean thing is so apparent in my family! We are talking about recipes and favourite foods while we sre all at the table eating together and we are planning upcoming meals and events often at the same time.Fast food isn't our favourite- you must linger- and we have our favourite food places we love to go- some are better for coffee, others for fresh juice some have cool atmosphere as well (I think that food and mood defeinetly go together! xxCorrina. PS and we are good cooks- we hate spending money at resturants for average food- we would rather cook up a storm at home.
ReplyDeleteNice list, I'll save it since I'll be in Paris next June and Marais is a favourite place of mine.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes, Rosanna
I got an "order" from Virginia to test your complete list. It's certainly not that she doesn't trust your advice, rather that I should enjoy it all. I know some of the addresses already and at least for those I can confirm that they are good ones. I will thus, already for my own pleasure, now try the remaining ones and, I suppose, make a confirmation report to Virginia.
ReplyDeleteI have been to three establishments on your list, I will now try the rest should I ever make it back.
ReplyDeleteIt really is too generous of you to share, you may no longer get a table.
X David

ReplyDeleteI want to eat what you're eating Carla!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're eating on a 'French' schedule...ahem

Definitely an eye-opener on this subject.

I reread more carefully your delish list.
pas de problem!
My husband and I recently ventured to Paris and stayed at Caron de Beau Marchais (pardon my spelling). It was small, romantic and utterly lovely.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say I love all the info you give on your photos. Helps us 'wannabees'....

What a fabulous list ! Although I am always on a neverending diet and therefore can not afford to think about food constantly, your list is extremely inviting and I will do as Peter, try to be able to send a confirmation report to the USA ladies who LOVE to visit Paris !
ReplyDeleteI love insider tips! I've bookmarked this post to reference on my next trip to Paris. Can't wait to try your go-to spots! Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to save this post for the next time we go to Paris! I'm so jealous that you live in France. I love it there!

Thanks for the info. What about doing a list of places to stay that won't break the bank? Would love to visit Paris, but know it's very expensive. Paris on a Budget would be a good title.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous store both inside and out, Paris...wandering...and food just perfect! ciao lisa
ReplyDeleteThat settles it, I'm staying in the Marais the next time!
