If there is one place I love to be in Paris it is backstage. Take me backstage at the couture shows, backstage at the cabaret or backstage at the Ritz Hotel and Carla is one very happy girl!
What do I love about being backstage? Backstage is where its all happening. Whilst on the catwalk or on stage you see a polished show behind the scenes its wonderful chaos. Girls changing their clothes, someone late and running like a madwomen to be ready, a lost shoe, headdress or spangly bra.
And there is the anticipation. Those last seconds before the show starts, the perfect entrance at exactly the right moment. The sigh of relief from the staff, designers, costume makers, musicians that everything is running smoothly. The joy of the girls as they run offstage breathless with excitement that their performance was perfect. And the energy, the high energy that only performance brings. Whether it be on the catwalk or on the stage performance brings out their best and backckstage we witness the joy that being part of this world brings.
To all the dancers, cabarets, designers, choreographers, models, set designers and producers thank-you for letting me part of this is incredible world. There is nothing I like better.

ReplyDeleteI can see why you are in love with this scene I think I prefer it minus the colour (B&W) you see another depth especially that first shot with its graininess and beautiful expression on the dancers face merci beaucoup! xxCorrina.

I wonder if you saw Frederick Wiseman's documentary "Crazy Horse"? Worth seeing?
ReplyDeleteIncredible images! What energy and life! I so understand your love of the backstage scene, Carla. I loved shooting backstage during my theatre days and always kept a camera on the prop table where I could grab it when I got off stage myself. Pushing film to 1600 for those shadowy shots, ah those were the days! :)
ReplyDeleteI love evey thing you post Carla.it's so true there is always so much more energy backstage than front of house ,I'm almost reired and shall miss it dreadfully.Maybe I'll just make a nuisance of myself and hang around anyway.there are always eyelashes to be glued and lips that need a bit of sparkle.
