Places Des Vosges

Copyright Carla Coulson

Yesterday I went jogging in Places Des Vosges. I huffed and puffed underneath the linden trees like I try and do three times a week if things are good. Yesterday the light was incredible, the autumn leaves were falling and the Place was empty ..Just me and Bruce (Springsteen) cranked up as loud as possible to give me enough fuel to go around one more time.. Bruce drowns out the sound of my panting and Clarence Clemons's Sax is like red bull for me.. Giddy up!!

As I heaved my leg up onto the bench to do a stretch I pinched myself.. It was as close as I come daily to being in visual heaven. Everything was trimmed, the grass powering enjoying it's winter 'repose', the trees looking fragile coated in yellow leaves and my running track a carpet of autumn leaves. Gawd the French are good with nature and a good pair of secaters!

The mood has changed today in Paris. The light has dropped and the grey cloud sits heavy on the roof..The best spring we have had in France in 200 years is over..Bye bye sunshine hello Grey skies. I hope I have the strength to don the sweats when Places des Vosges looks like it did in this photo I took last year.

Stay warm.. Carla xx

ps taken on my Leica M7 and Tri-x film..

  1. To think I am off to France to day. Our snow in Connecticut is no near as blissful...with trees down, my courtyard covered in broken branches...

  2. Gorgeous ... you are so lucky to be surrounded by such beauty everyday :) (and it's so lovely to read that you appreciate it, too!).

I bought your new book today, by the way - I can't wait to read it, it looks amazing.

  4. This made me heave a big SIGH Carla. I was fortunate to photograph this very place two years ago under a light snow. I will forever cherish that time in Paris.

    Yours is exquisite.

  5. Lovely. I wonder something similar - will I keep swimming in the wet, dead of winter with my team in our outdoor pool? I hope so. But it's a struggle every winter. One I lost last winter!

  6. Nothing like a little Bruce to get the old heart pumping. And Place des Vosges to get the old heart swooning.

  8. Jogging, Bruce, Paris, moody light and a Leica...perfect combination. Beautifully captured and expressed...a vision of perfection as only the French know how!

  9. Carla, now are you trying to make us all jealous!! This is such a serene image- minus the panting of course! My hubby is a sax player and that cool instrument has the same effect on me- lurve it. Here in Australia we have had a very cool and wet spring the last few weeks. Last year summer was extremely hot so be interesting to see what kind of summer we have in store for us this year. I would love my kids to have a white xmas oh perchance to dream..... xx Corrina.

  10. Hiya! I know the feeling.... all of a sudden at 5 in the afternoon I want to rush home, the dark comes in sooner the nights become colder and I want to be tucked in in the warmth of my home! All the trees are finally changing colour and the leaves are starting to fall after a very long summer.....
Today is the first day I put on my warm sheepskin slippers:(
Congratulations on the new book, I would love to have a few copies as Xmas presi's but it doesn't make sense to order from Australia, do you know when it will be for sale in Europe?

and, every time I take the Thalys down to Paris, it is as if it is 3 or so degrees C warmer there than here in Brussels (only 300 something km apart) but today !! the sun is still shining here ! I am enjoying every second of it.
