Paris Cafe - My big sis

Copyright Carla Coulson

When you spend your life on the other side of the world to your family it is such a treat when they visit. I had the pleasure of having my sister and her hubby in Paris last week and what a gorgeous time we had. I have a sore throat from trying to cram so much talk in in such short time!

Some photos tell the truth and others are like smoke and mirrors! This one is one of those rare ones where what you see is the truth. A couple who love each other after 26 years of marriage as though it was the first day they met. I gave myself a pet project when they were here to take some pics of them so that this great moment together would be remembered long after the memory fades! This pic was taken in a cafe on the Ile St Louis on a lovely soft grey day.

Some notes: I chose the window seat so we would have a chance of some great light from those big windows behind them because it dropped off dramatically a table away. I loved the idea of doing a silhouette shot without seeing every last detail in their clothes but capturing the ambience of Paris.  I exposed for the light landing on their faces (there were lots of choices, outside and their bodies) and let Paris do the rest..Taken on my Leica M8.2.

this image really touches on so many levels, of course it is beautifully shot with thought and care. Yet the thing that it leaves me with is a sense of longing to hold onto those special moments especially with family and friends. Yes it also reminds me of the little girl turning in the car for one last look.

I feel I have been living life recently in high definition knowing that soon we will be so far away not knowing when I will see everyone again.

and there is a true connection between this couple, the easy smiles....26 years and it looks like they just met.
    ciao lisa
