Australian Blues

My Italian hubby photographed every corrugated iron shed he saw on our trip to Australia this year. The guy that grew up learning of Leonardo and Michelangelo couldn't hop out of the car quick enough to circle another aussie corrugated pub, shed, house or holding pen as excited as I was the first time I discovered Mozzarella di bufala! He was in love with the worlds most durable material as though he had just discovered the lost island of Delos. God love his soul! And he is an architect.

It's always intimidating showing Europeans Australia, you never know which way they are going to go.. It can be 'all out love' for the blond brick and beers or the 'sniff in the air' at the project homes and tracky daks in the supermarket. My darling embraced it all, loved wearing a singlet everywhere, walking into an outback pub and bracing the bar (I did instruct him to leave the white linen at home) and sleeping in crazy structures like the Comfort Inn in Broken Hill..

Whilst he was snapping the corrugated iron I was snapping everything else. See above..

So many wonderful memories..

Australia I miss you!!

  1. Carla, this was such a sweet post. Full of love for your hubs and your home. We have some dear, dear friends here in Virginia who are Aussies, and everything you write about feels familiar to me from what they've told us. Great phone shots too! xo

I just have to mention another blog I think you will adore Love accent couture by Kirsten.

The work she is doing in the fashion industry over in Italy and the teaching she is doing is worth reading about on her gorgeous blog.

  9. How funny, I can just picture him stalking the corrugated iron. Did you get him into a pair of tracky daks?? All those things we Aussie's just take for granted, I'm so glad he loved it all! Perhaps we will see a new use for corrugated iron in Italia? Is he a good photographer?

still chuckling, and don't we all need that!

  12. So glad he embraced it all haha!
It's certainly very different to the beauty & history of Europe but I think we have our charm.
