Ok, this has nothing to do with photography but even a photographer needs to dream about wearing more than a pair of runners day in and out and look a little retro like my girl above.
I spotted these gorgeous Swedish Hasbeens in the ultra-cool Merci in the Marais the other day. I have been trying to hunt down a pair since my glam friend was seen last summer everyday in heels. Ok, they are not 4 inch Christian Louboutins but the de rigeur footwear of any Parisian gal is 'flat' for all the kilometers one needs to do in a day.
Instead my glam friend was seen at the park with her baby in heels, taking the Metro stairs two at a time in her heels and doing all the standard kilometers normally reserved for Converse in her heels!
What was going on I asked. Her secret is the glam girls answer to Birkenstocks with a heel the Hasbeens (loving that name). Those clever Swedish people found this fabulous shoe mold from the 70's in the back of the factory and re-vamped the leather, style and colours. The best thing of all is that they are super comfy and you can walk kilometers in them without your feet crying.
I feel like I have passed the last ten years in sneakers to cope with my life as a photographer but this has got to stop! I need to put on a heel every now and then and lets face it I am never going to be able to wear Louboutins (the price tag and the height - ouch).
So gang I am off to Merci to get myself a pair of the fabulous Swedish Hasbeens and I will soon be seen swanning around Paris in a pair of heels. Stay-tuned!
Have a great weekend..
Carla xx

I can understand your desire for some new shoes..... always being practical can be so tiring.
ReplyDeleteTells us how they feel on your feet. I have recollections of wearing something very similar in the 70's - very taxing on the calf muscles as well as the feet.
Bon weekend
Lovely! I hope you find they are comfortable because they are adorable. Enjoy!

I swear I had a pair of shoes exactly like them in 1979, when I was 13. I got them in NYC.
ReplyDeleteI SO understand, Carla! When we go on location my biggest dilemma is footwear! I have to be comfortable running around and lugging my gear all day. And that rarely goes along with being stylish. These look like a great option and hope they are work out for you! xo – g
ReplyDeleteIncredibly confortable !
ReplyDelete(i got exactly the same 2 years ago) I went 157 bd St. Germain. (probably less expensive than merci...) the place is called Kirsten adolphson.
Ps tried to send u a mail to thank you for your great photos at the Tourists (it came back to me !)
As I will be in Paris next week, I plan on staring at people's feet (especially since I will be trying out some of your addresses)... and maybe I will spot a pair of Hasbeens on Australian feet?
ReplyDeleteI too love high heels, but I hardly have an opportunity to wear them. So when I do wear them I topple over from lack of practice. In a practical world if I do wear high heels the heels need to be double wide. So scared that I'll sprain my ankle in a stiletto. Mind you that didn't stop me from buying a pair of hot pink stiletto high heels several months ago, which I never wear. But one never knows, maybe I'll get to dress up for an 80s party - I could wear the shoes with a Jem [as in Jem and the Holograms] costume.
ReplyDeleteI love these, if you like this type of shoes you might like http://chiemihara.com/ she is my favorite shoe designer, nothing like louboutins but I just love her designs.
ReplyDeleteWEll darlin' you just scoot on over to Merci and tell them I said, "Bonjour!" and get you a pair or three! I"m way past that now sadly. My only hope on Paris is to find something black and comfy that blends in with ensemble and I don't look like a granny.....too much!

I love the name... don't get me started!!! xxv
ReplyDeleteFab tip...........Yes I had a pair just like this in the 70's (in baby blue leather). I'll be off to get myself another pair (ie. the hasbeens)....spooky when it's the 2nd time around though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTry looking at Anthropology shoes...some flat + some heels. Adore them! I call really high heels, "wheel chair shoes", because that is the only place I will be able to wear them. Ha! xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Carla! I hope these sweeties are the answer to your prayers. But if you'd like an option, take a look at Italian rucolines... Like you, I dash around all day for my work and if you can do it in 8cm heels in divine comfort why not? I love mine with an absolute passion. Something for your next time in Italy maybe? Jx
ReplyDeleteThey are adorable shoes. Oh enjoy!
