Photography for our Sisters - Renaissance Photography Prize 2012

All Photos by Renaissance Photography Prize Winners in 2012

In the past two months I have lost three women in my extended family of friends to breast cancer. These three women have two things in common, they were Australians and all in their forties. Far too young to die and their passing has left huge craters in the lives of their family, friends, children and husbands.

Fiona Gifford a young lawyer and budding photographer found at the age of 34 that she too had breast cancer. "During my recovery period, day to day concerns became irrelevant, and I became more aware of the moments that really matter in life - moments of emotion, human connection, and wonder at the nature of beauty. What better way to represent these moments than through photography".

The fabulous Fiona gathered together some of the best critics in contemporary photography today including Martin Parr, Brett Rogers and Mary McCartney and founded the Renaissance Photography Prize an International photography competition with all money raised going to the Lavender trust for breast cancer research.

So budding photographers check out this link and get involved. You have the chance to have your work judged by critics working in the field of photography. But most importantly you will be shooting for all sisters, mothers, aunts, children, grandmothers and loved ones.
