Venice is a photographers dream come true. The only decision to make is which photo to take because there is one every metre. Though I have been coming to Venice for 20 years I still see this enchanting water engulfed world through rose coloured glasses and the words of Henry James.
"The mere use of one's eyes in Venice is happiness enough, and
generous observers find it hard to keep an account of their
profits in this line. Everything the attention touches holds it,
keeps playing with it--thanks to some inscrutable flattery of the
atmosphere. Your brown-skinned, white-shirted gondolier, twisting
himself in the light, seems to you, as you lie at contemplation
beneath your awning, a perpetual symbol of Venetian "effect." The
light here is in fact a mighty magician and, with all respect to
Titian, Veronese and Tintoret, the greatest artist of them all."

ReplyDeleteAHHHH these are amazing Carla. The Mr and I are visiting Lake Garda in April and I have heard Venice is only 2 hours by train - maybe I should go there - would adore it.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend sweets Axx
I think you just keep snapping away as many as you can as you move along the water, that is (if you're travelling in a gondoa!)
ReplyDeleteYour photo's are great and it's good for you to share them with your australian friends who are trying to get over the fact that we are not going to have a summer after all!

Same feelings, I cannot stop going to Venice, do nothing but walk along the small canali and dream. It's a pity that it is so illkept and constantly in need of repair but it is truly enchanting.Have fun, Rosanna
ReplyDelete'The mere use of one's eyes in Venice is happiness enough' really says it all.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carla for sharing these enchanting photos.
Thank you so much for these beautiful photos Carla. I am lucky enough to be heading to Venice in 2 weeks and am just so excited at the thought of all the beautiful photo opportunities (and the food, wine..) so these posts are well timed! A little worried about the weather though, I hope the ice melts before I arrive!

These pictures are absolutely amazing! Nothing less! I can't take my eyes off them. The light is so beautiful, and Venice it self is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love the effect, the water gives the city - it's stunning. I just posted a picture, also taken by the water/sea side today. I was so amazed by the water when it's frozen, shot so many pictures. Hop you would like to have look :)
Wonderful photos. Venice is truly the backdrop for a love story.
ReplyDeleteLooks a great place to visit, although a friend of mine who visited some years ago said it is quite smelly due to the dirty water in the canals
ReplyDeleteVenice is such a haunting, magical city Carla. Even my dodgy photographs and camera managed to capture some stunning photographs there. I also loved the recent Johnny Depp film The Tourist which combined Depp and Venice. Your images are superb. xx
