Chasing a Dream - Carla Coulson
Share the love!!! That's what this post is about. Most things are better in twos..
In yesterday's post I discussed getting started in your photography career. Taking those first baby steps towards making a plan and turning photography from a hobby into a career.
I want to tell you about one of my secret's to having survived the first couple of years as a newby photographer. I had the great fortune in the early days to be sent on an assignment with a seasoned journalist. This guy had been working in the industry for years and boy did he know some moves!!
Within a day of meeting him he had pitched 5 stories to different magazines and he needed a photographer to deliver the second part of the story. He asked me whether I would be willing to do the job if the magazine said yes? Hello!! For me it was a dream come true someone actively procuring work for me!! Bring it on!!
Over the years I have formed a tight knit group of people I love to work with. Its important to work with people you admire, are reliable and share the love around. They help me and I help them. Whoever gets the job shares the love around.
Whose on my team?
Fashion stylists
Make-up artists
Great hairdressers
Fabulous assistants
Savvy journalists
Wonderful Photographers
Who could be on your team?
Lets say you:
Want to be a: Who Could be on Your Team
Food Photographer Food stylist, chef or food writer
Fashion Photographer Make-up artist, fashion stylist, hair dresser, model
Travel Photographer Travel writer,
Interior Photographer Interior stylist, interiors writer,
Portrait Photographer Stylist, assistant, wedding photographer
So start building a photography community. I have list of photographers who work in the same area as me and others who specialise in weddings or something that I am not into. I happily recommend them when someone gets in touch with me..
You see what I mean??

ReplyDeleteGreat advice Carla. Couldn't agree more. I've been shooting interiors, gardens and food for awhile now, and work with many different talented people. Love "team" work - much more fun than solo work!
