Mama Shelter Paris

Mama Shelter Paris

So here's the challenge. It is easy to come to Paris and stay in a fabulous hotel if you are on a champagne budget, the list is long, glamorous and titillating. The only decision for the champagne budget is which arrondissment to stay in and whether to go Jacques Garcia gorge at the Hotel Costes, old world French at the Hotel Crillion or pop culture groovy at the Hotel Murano!

But what about if you want a little glamour but you are on a beer budget or should I say a panaché (a shandy in French) budget!! Where does one sleep?

Well I would like to introduce you to one of my favourites Mama Shelter where one can sleep in style and still leave a little spare change for some champagne!

Philippe Starck has given Mama Shelter in the 20th arrondissment a design hotel feel without the credit card crunch on check-out. Dark walls, low lighting and photography exhibitions in the reception all get a thumbs up from me. And as low as 89 euro (weekends not included) for two makes Mama Shelter one-of-a kind in Paris.

On the location Mama says:

Mama Paris is located in the
20th arrondissment at 109 rue de Bagnolet 75020 Paris, France.
OK, it's not the centre of the City, but it's definitely the most diverse,
surprising and interesting area and that's why we love it

Sleep Well

  5. I have heard so much about this--a very branché lieu for brunch also, non? I am tempted to check it out next time I head up although I love apartment rentals. Merci!

  7. My friend Mary and I have tossed the idea around for years. I don't think I like the darkness so much but it would be fun to try it at least for one night. ANd...if memory serves, you can walk out the door and visit Père Lachaise!

  11. I like the idea of comfort and a little style so I can spend the big money elsewhere- lets face it you only sleep there! the rest of the time I would be out and about on the streets with my cameraand tasting the delights of Paris. I would fall into bed and crash at night! We come in groups of 6 (I have four children) so comfort and budget have to come into play. However, if it was just hubby and me I may go the champagne route- at least for 1-2 nights xxCorrina.

  12. Sorry Carla
Love your posts but this hotel doesn't appeal to me - I prefer light walls and plenty of light, preferably natural, though not always possible in Paris, especially in winter/bad weather, I understand. Much better to book into an apartment if you're going to be there a week or more anyway. My fave is well located on edge of Marais, lots of natural light, fresh white walls, kitchen, bathroom/laundry, comfortable bedroom with safe, and even has air conditioning, free wifi, DVD and CD players and little gift packages of tea, coffee and champagne - and doesn't cost a fortune.
