There are also moments that are euphoric when a word pops out that you didn't even know you knew and there are the depths of frustration when as a grown-up you can't express the simplest phrases.
I am so thrilled that someone has attempted to put this into words. If you have ever loved a language especially Italian you will probably love this book.

Glad you wrote about this because otherwise I would never have found out... (as I hope one day you will write something 'dolce' about Warren Dekko's Appointment in Milano, see http://whatisbelgium.blogspot.com/2011/11/meet-author-warren-dekko.htmll, so people can find out about this little jewel ;-) . Please pardon this litte bit of extra publicity
ReplyDeleteI started to learn Italian as a young child because I just loved the sound of it.. and am still learning it (ha ha!) and enjoying every minute.
Can't wait to read it
Grazie mille e ti auguro un fantastica fin settimana!

Im with you carla italian is so lovely. Just look at opera there really not saying anything that interesting but it is still beautiful to hear in italian. When I was in venice last year one of my favourite things was to sit in cafes and just listen to people speak. It was like a reality check after so many years I was actually in italy.
ReplyDeleteGrazie mille :o)) è un vero piacere sapere che l'Italiano piace. In effetti si studia solo per passione perchè nessuno lo parla al di fuori dell'Italia.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it's wonderful when words come out of yor mouth naturally while it is so annoying and awful when they skip from you :o(
Btw English is my love language.
Buona giornata, Rosanna
Well I"m currently having a time of it trying to string together an entire sentence en français so I'll have to pass on Italian! :)

PS This time last week, we were laughing over a café creme!!
Hi Carla! This looks like a perfect addition to our studies in preparation for Venice this spring. Thanks so much for the intro to it!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend.

Thank you for the introduction. I love language, but I am at a point of utter frustration with my French - I seem to be going backwards, so I definitely need some inspiration to kick start my waning enthusiasm.
ReplyDeleteBonne semaine.
P.S.Been away from my computer this week - time is too tight.
Fantastic! I definitely have a love affair with Italian after a trip there a few months ago - it revived the not totally wasted 2 years of Italian I did in high school!
ReplyDeleteI've started quite a collection of books on living in Italy that you have recommended and have really enjoyed reading them. I'll add this one to the must buy list immediately!
As an Australian born, relatively fluent Italian speaker, I love learning new words in the language. This is on my reading list now - can't wait to get my hands on a copy !!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand what you mean Carla. The same thing happened to me a long, long time ago. I was in 6th grade in a French public school and I fell in love with the English language. I was fascinated and could not learn new words and expressions fast enough. I studied Spanish later on but am a bit rusty now. Italian is on my list too. One day, one day. ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence! I'm also reading this book right now (:
