Fashion shoot at the George V Hotel Paris.. Shot Using: One small fill light high above the model to her right softened with a George V white serviette borrowed from the restaurant!! I exposed to keep all that divine ambient light in the background.

Shot at about 3am in Piazza della Repubblica Florence. Shot Using: Big soft Florentine street lights and lots of 3200 tri max film!! Shot on my Leica M6.. I parked the model under the lights which you can't see in the photo and played with the street lights behind her to get this effect.

Wow! Impressionnant, Carla. I love the George V photo shoot with the two gorgeous ladies. Love your photography, and love the models' style. Very Coco Chanel. Very French. Thanks for the tips (but I don't think I will attempt anything quite so technical with my little Point and Shoot camera any time soon ;-) -- Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
ReplyDeleteLove your shots; after using cameras for 50 years I am still a total novice with flash, and never tried a fashion shoot. Really like your work.

Gorgeous pictures, fantastic lighting I have still so much to learn about lighting!
ReplyDeleteReally gorgeous! love the last one. Thanks for sharing your secrets :)
ReplyDeleteHi Carla, I sooo love your stunning work and appreciate your tips. I have found night time and low light pics very difficult. I love using natural available light but as you know it isn't always possible. I would like to try some fashion type shoots myself- any tips on how to maybe get the results you're getting without the whizbang lighting you describe? for example I am not sure what strip lighting or bare bulbs look like? is there something I could rig up from a hardware store that might do a similare thing? Thanks xx Corrina.
ReplyDeleteFabulous Carla, thanks for the tips, I just need some supermodels.
ReplyDeletegrande fotografia!! Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteAmazing, amazing! As always.

Just one word:
ReplyDeleteSTUNNING!!
The thing I love so about your images is that the lighting is always so beautiful. And the suggestions are simple but make such a huge difference. Even being aware of the lighting, looking for where you plan to pose your subject, using a sheet as a simple backdrop....all possible for even the newest photographer.
ReplyDeletegrazie and love these images especially the girls on the couch.
