A couple of years ago I was lurking around the 9th arrondissment on my way to see my fab friend and talented make-up artist Tracy Gray-Mann. The 9th is one of those arrondissments that the tourists never quite make it to but it is full of local gems. I did a double take in front of the window of A La Mere De Famille - Paris straight out of the photos of Willy Ronis or Robert Doisneau..
Giant glass jars filled with coloured bonbons, chocolate to satisfy every childhood dream and old fashioned boiled lollies!! Bring it on... I pushed open the door and was lost in another world. Original wooden counters, ancient tiled floors and the cashier locked away in a little wooden box (maybe they had armed hold-ups for lollies back in the day).. Ambiance that only 250 years of life can create.
If you have a sweet tooth and are cruising around the 9th in Paris check out A La Mere De Famille. For more reading on the The Sweet Life in Paris visit hilarious David Lebovitz and his witty + wonderful blog.
Sweetness + Love + A Great Weekend..

What a great shop, and I just love the sales booth. Makes a great mono shot. As you say, it could be from another time, but that wouldn't come across the same in colour. I'll have to put up a couple of Cisternino shots next week.
ReplyDeleteOh this little treasure is on my list! I think Monsieur is locked up to keep him from eating himself silly!
ReplyDeleteAnd David....well I loved that book. I don't think I knew he had a blog. I'm off to schmooze. :)

ReplyDeleteCarla, I love reading your glimpses into life in Paris. Gorgeous photo too!
ReplyDeleteI knew such a shop in my grandmother's small town, where I spent a good part of my summers. We stopped by frequently. I can still remember the smell of candy as soon as we pushed the door open... I, too, love that "Monsieur" is protected by that tall glass window, as if he was afraid kids were going to rob him! ;-) -- Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
