Great Coffee in Paris

Every Australian and Italian that arrives in Paris starts whining about the coffee and I have heard this phrase numerous times  'where can I get a good coffee?'

We love the French cafes, the decor is drop dead, the black and white waiters outfits are out of our Parisian fantasies and the atmosphere is to-die-for.. But us Aussies and particularly Aussies like me who have had a stint in Italy can't come at the French coffee - it's too watery!!

But I have a couple of secret coffee haunts if you are visiting Paris and in need of a serious caffeine hit.

Top of my list is the Turin owned  Miroglio Caffe right around the corner from the Centre Pompidou. It's almost like being in Italy, you can have a coffee at the bar and it is ristretto, ristretto, ristretto!!! The capuccino's are made with fresh milk - a real find in Paris!!! You can nibble on Italian cornetto's and mini sfoglietella whilst readng the Italian newspaper,  La Repubblica is on the banco!! Of course you can grab a table and wile the morning the way.

Another favourite is Pozzetto in the Marais. They do great coffee and incredible gelato!! The owners are also from Turin and as Turin is the Italian home of Gianduia (hazelnut chocolate) they do the best Gianduia icre-cream in Paris.. Hubby and I go for the Giandiua/Nocciala combo.

And lucky for us on rue Rambuteau in the 3rd is Terres De Cafe,  a small coffee boutique that has opened with a couple of tables and a busy coffee machine for the lucky.. They sell roasted beans from all around the world and each day the specialty coffee they serve changes.. It is just a shop away from the fabulous Pain du Sucre so you can grab something sweet.. What could be better???

    Thanks for your tips on where to get good coffee in Paris Carla..I'm from Melbourne and can't live without good coffee especially first thing in the morning! I've seen your new book in a few bookshop windows over the last couple of days...the book & photography is stunning.

    Have just returned from Paris...would have been handy to have your list! I must confess however that I am quite content to sample the hot chocolate instead!!!

    I never would have imagined that it would have been hard to find good coffee in Paris! I WILL get there someday! Right now it's hard enough for me to drive 6 hours away!

    groan....why oh why didn't I know of Miroglio's LAST month--just returned from France-- Paris a few days before departure --but you're right! Good coffee is hidden from travelers!

    Fabulous shots!! Wish I'd known about these cafes 2 months ago.. I absolutely agree and found it hard to find a good coffee anywhere.. although I did on my last day.. just can't remember the name.. will have to take note of these for next time..
